Hot rolled 1045 steel bar is a medium carbon common steel grade with moderate weldability, higher strength, and impact properties for a variety of applications. 1045 steel is a common grade because of its cost and excellent properties. When delivered in the normalized state, SAE 1045 steel has good cold and hot workability and average strength, so it is widely used in machinery manufacturing. 1035 steel is widely used in the manufacture of various forgings and hot presses, cold drawn and top forged steel, seamless steel pipes, parts in mechanical manufacturing, such as crankshafts, shafts, pins, levers, connecting rods, beams, sleeves, wheels, washers, screws, nuts, motorcycle frames, etc.

The following are some of the mechanical properties of S45C material in the state of quenching and tempering:  

The stress of the 1045 steel is expressed in Newtons per millimeter and it must be at least 370-490 N/mm2 (MPa).  

The elongation characteristics are varied with the heat treatment process and thickness, but are usually expressed as 14-17%.  

The tensile strength is expressed in Newtons per millimeter and it must be at least 700-800 N/mm2 (MPa).

Heat treatment specification: normalizing,870;  Quenching,850;  Temper,600

Metallographic structure: ferrite + pearlite. 

Delivery condition: Delivered in a condition of no heat treatment or heat treatment (annealing, normalizing or high temperature tempering).  Where delivery in heat treatment condition is required, it shall be indicated in the contract, and if not indicated, delivery shall be made without heat treatment.

 

Difference between 1045 and 1035

 

1045 steel is a high-quality carbon structural steel, its strength is 61, HRC is 48-55, more mechanical use; while 1035 is also a high-quality carbon structural steel, but its strength is only 54, and its HRC is 38-45.  The difference between them can be identified from the spark, the spark with low carbon content, the tail drooping, the color is slightly dark, and the gun tip tail flowers, the amount of flowers is not much, and the awn line is thicker.  1045 has a straight tail and bifurcated tip flow line, with larger shooting force and more flowers. 

1045 steel has a higher carbon content which is much harder.
