23CrNi3Mo is a high-performance low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum carburizing steel in accordance with GB/T 3077 standard. It adopts high nickel composite alloy design, featuring ultra-deep hardenability, outstanding low-temperature impact toughness and stable carburizing performance. After carburizing quenching and low-temperature tempering, the workpiece surface obtains high hardness and abrasion resistance, while the core maintains strong anti-shock capacity. Compared with conventional 20CrNiMo and 8620, it has thicker effective carburized layer and higher core strength, ideal for heavy-load large gear parts under severe impact and alternating loads. It can be supplied as continuous casting billets, hot rolled black round bars and forged blanks.

Heat Treatment & Core Performance
Standard process: carburizing at 900–930℃, oil quenching, tempering at 180–220℃. The carburized surface hardness reaches HRC 58–62 with excellent anti-abrasion performance; core hardness can reach HRC 35–45 to withstand continuous heavy shock loads. Even for large cross-section gear forgings over 100mm thickness, uniform mechanical properties can be obtained without internal soft core. Under annealed state, it has good machinability for rough turning, milling and gear hobbing.
Main Application Fields
- Engineering machinery heavy transmission system: large driving gears, planet gears, gear shafts and differential pinions for excavators, loaders, mining vehicles and bulldozers, which bear huge impact and torsion during operation.
- Metallurgical & mining equipment: reducer heavy gear blanks, sprocket wheel forgings and heavy-duty pin sleeves working under dust and high-load friction conditions.
- Rail transit & wind power: locomotive traction gear components, wind turbine large speed change gears requiring long fatigue service life.
- Heavy truck & new energy commercial vehicles: heavy-duty gearbox gears, axle transmission parts that demand ultra-high load capacity and impact resistance.
With super thick hardenability, superior core toughness and long fatigue life, 23CrNi3Mo is the preferred material for large heavy-load carburized gears, widely adopted by heavy machinery, mining equipment and wind power gear manufacturers.
